India big base for offshore software

India is one of the few countries which provides offshore software development services to the global market, as companies in the US mainly cater to the American market or set up bases if they have work in Europe, says Managing Director of Fusion Software Engineering Pvt Ltd Ramesh Santhanam.

Santhanam says that 1997-98 in particular has been exceptionally good for the company, as it had bagged a major development order from the Union Bank of Switzerland for executing a global IT Project Portfolio Management system, which entails formulating, disseminating, and monitoring of information on the multi-billion dollar portfolio of IT projects and initiative of the bank.

Santhanam says the company, which was formed in 1992, believes in short term, small team projects, which are databased and non-generic. The only person among the founder members to be into techno marketing, Santhanam is into strategic planning, reviewing and top-level client handling for all key projects and clients.

He says his company is now trying to find the right partners to find business for Fusion. On the front end it is trying to create marketing consultants and also trying to form vendor networks.

"For instance, we tied up with Rementa Anstalt of Switzerland to set up Fusion Technologies. Rementa, an international trading house with high contact base in Europe and South America, has already found three projects for us."

Fusion has also taken up other projects like the Integrated Payment Services, which is an application front-end for internal payment and accounting systems for fund transfers through cheques, wires and Automated Clearing House.
